Fountain of Youth (gotta keep young.)
Drive up
We set out on our road trip to St. Augustine with high hopes and plans packed. But as we set out, I started to reminisce about the last time we took this route. My oldest was a little over a year old, and my wife was pregnant with our second baby. My wife had a tough time, because the baby was not having the car seat for that trip. Add the rough road and traffic, I did have some reservations. Maybe we could fly?
Well once again, the baby was not having the car seat. No distractions were deterring him from giving my wife a hard time. But the road was in much better shape, the older two were contented listening to an audiobook, and memories were being made.

Round two
As we arrived, we ate lunch and made our way to our first stop- Villa Zorayda Musuem. As mentioned in the last blog it was a hit. We were ready to check into the hotel and refresh for phase two. My son was excited as we made our way to the beach. It was a pleasant change of forte- we didn’t drive around for 20 minutes looking for parking or even pay for it. We crossed over to a nice piece of beach that was empty except one other family. The kids got wet, built castles, and of course dreamed of living in the houses along the beach. (I would have done the same at their age.) Then of course looking for the buried treasure of shells.
Time for a lesson
My middle child had a very important question as her castle kept being swept away by the wind and the waves. “Daddy, how can people live here near the water? My castle falls down, why doesn’t their house? (God is good.) First, I asked her what was she making her castle out of? “Sand, daddy. You see that.” And what do you see under the houses along the beach? “They are higher, and they have rock under them.” Do you remember something about rocks, sand, and houses? “Oh yeah.” And she began singing the wise man built his house upon the rock. It was a perfect opportunity to remind her of a truth of God. Yes, the song is old and a little too young for her. But I was able to talk with all three about building our house/life on the Rock (Jesus.) And when we build our lives on the world (sand) how it can quickly fall apart.
I hope you have decided to build your life on the Rock. If not, it is easy for life’s winds and waves to tumble us down. He wants to hold us and protect us. He wants to keep our families in His care. Take time to know Him and accept Him as your personal Savior and Lord. If you have any questions about this, please leave a comment below. I would love to talk to you about it.
We’ll continue to explore this trip with our next entry. Till then, take care and take time for your family.
I love it
In awe! Can’t wait for the next leg of the journey. The Parent and the Trio conquering a glimpse of life’s journey.
